Hi, I use freenas in a iomega nas device.
I configure nfs at 4 servers.
I run virtualmachines in vwmare esxi. This machines are in freenas, and esxi acces them accross nfs.
It runs usualy, but in an uncertain time freenas stop nfs service, and frezzes virtual machine, and i only can reboot all phisicalmachines for start again.
I don't know what happening, but graphics in freenas are very extrange at exactly at this point.
In processes, memory usage, swap usage, and diskusage, at 11:10 of this morning it goes from 100% to zero.
System load graphs before system breaks is at 5% more or less, after break go to 100% of load for a few moments and go again at 5% of load.
Network interface before break was a 10% of load.
CPU usage at this moment go to 0% to 10% more or less.
How can i debug this problem?

OS Version FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE-p2
Platform Intel(R) Celeron(R) D CPU 3.20GHz
Memory 1000MB

I have a raid z mount across 4 hard disk seagate of 2teras each.

Rebooting everything may solve the problem, but doesn't really help from a debugging perspective.

I'm assuming there are no obvious VMware messages. However, if you're running ZFS and your filer only had 1GB of memory, that's probably the problem there. ZFS requires substantially more memory in order to operate. The usual figure is 8GB.

That's a very low end CPU with only a tiny bit of cache and not nearly close to the amount of ram required for ZFS.

you could try UFS.

Formating volume

I asume formating volume will be okay.

I make a standard raid-5, then, with ufs.

Only a question more.

Is ufs safe if powerline goes down, like ext3?

Thanks!
