Hi

I was wondering if anyone had any luck with MakeMKV for blu-ray ripping for plex and if a usb blu-ray drive was easy to set up.

Many thanks

Should be plug and go, more or less. The upside to MakeMKV Linux is that it is perpetually in some sort of beta/free-to-use mode. I've had occasional issues with both the Windows and Linux versions where they decide to take forever on certain disks. While I haven't tried this on TrueNAS SCALE, there's no reason to think it wouldn't work that I can think of.

I bought a license to use MakeMKV years ago, so no beta license update needed.

It seems to work fine on Linux, (but I have not tried it on TrueNAS SCALE).

Truecharts have a MakeMKV app for Scale and it works. I haven't tried it with an USB BD drive though but I imagine that it works the same.

How are you getting this working?

I tried adding my USB Blu-ray drive as `/dev/sr0`:

It's not showing up:

It doesn't seem to think I have an optical drive connected:

I tried mounting `/dev/sr0` in TrueNAS and saw the correct disk data:

Not sure how it works for SATA drives, but USB drives require a bit more finesse.

One last piece of info. I needed to enable "Allow Privilege Escalation" under "Show Advanced Security Settings" or it wouldn't write files to the mounted Host Path.
