Good luck.. I'll be interested to see how that turns out. I was thinking that the card was a fake.

v15? Why not v16? it looks like v16 is probably going to be included with the next FreeNAS version. In that case, his card won't be compatible with the next FreeNAS version.

Does that mean everyone that has an M1015 card have to update to v16? I mean it's not a super easy thing to update.

'cuz i followed the oft quoted directions (and software link) in: http://www.servethehome.com/ibm-serveraid-m1015-part-4/ (you also quoted it in message #2). No mention of search the 'net for v16 software.

Which "next FreeNAS version"? 9.2? Do you have a citation for that?

It was discussed in the IRC earlier. FreeNAS is built from FreeBSD stable. And FreeBSD stable got the v16 driver a week or so ago. He includes the v16 phase firmware in that download. If you flash that it should be backwards compatible with older drivers. Also, if you read the dmesg output from your FreeNAS system with the M1015 installed it will say something like:

Code:
mps0: <LSI SAS2008> port 0x4000-0x40ff mem 0xd2400000-0xd2403fff,0xd2440000-0xd247ffff irq 18 at device 0.0 on pci3
mps0: Firmware: 16.00.00.00, Driver: 13.00.00.00-fbsd
mps0: IOCCapabilities: 1285c<ScsiTaskFull,DiagTrace,SnapBuf,EEDP,TransRetry,EventReplay,HostDisc>
mps0: [ITHREAD]

That is listed so you can do your own compare. :)

Edit: Ok, I think that he only has the p15(presumably because the p16 driver wasn't mainstreamed yet). But if you read the thread that actually has the download file he makes multiple mentions of updates and various other people ask about how to "update" his zip file with the p16 download.

This controler is great. I use it in 2 servers.
Here you have info about flashing/IT firmware [With this firmware you got HDD transparent to OS, and you can make own raid] and config under FreeBSD. In Polish, but you can translate it.
Best regards.

OK, so I reflashed it again yesterday with firmware v16. Thank goodness I still have my DOS 6.22 floppies!

I am posting the latest screenshot here, so Wyl has it for his documentation.

OK, after re-reading the entire thread I see some mention of p16 in the thread. He'd obviously updated the download from p11 to p15, but hadn't updated it for p16.

I had skimmed though the 86 messages (several times), but missed the couple of messages that talked about p16.

But if you read the thread that actually has the download file he makes multiple mentions of updates and various other people ask about how to "update" his zip file with the p16 download.

WOOT! Glad that's taken care of! I just wonder how this will work when p17 drivers and firmware are out. Based on their current release rate p17 is pretty much a sure thing before the end of the year.
