ipmitool not working on supermicro motherboard

Hi!
I just bought an prebuild system from 45homelab, the HL15. It comes with a Supermicro X11SPH-NCTF and the IMPI web interface is working just fine.
when I run the command ipmitool I get

I'm I missing something?
I'm I supposed to use the lm-sensors instead?

I have also read this thread but it's not relevant for me since AVSION is running inside a VM

Try with sudo. Ipmitool is not great about correctly reporting why it couldn't open the device.

Don't, the error is misleading. I had my share of panicky moments before I realized that one.
