Hi

I have a Scaleo Homeserver and want to install Freenas on that.

The PC has no display adapter so i tried to install Freenas on another computer and move the harddrive to the Scaleo

But it will not boot.

So is it possible to make a Freenas so you can install it on one computer with a display adapter and move the disk to the computer without a display adapter

Have you checked to see if the Scaleo Home Server specs meet the minimum requirements of FreeNAS? Have you checked to see if FreeBSD 8 provides driver support for the hardware in the Scaleo Home Server? The specs of a Scaleo Home Server that I found online only showed it to have 512MB of RAM.

How do you initially plan to configure the network adapter if you did get that to work?

Hi

I followed the guide that i have under this message that guide is for Freenas 7

I have upgraded the memory to 2 Gb

If it's possible to start Freenas 8 like the guide under, and config everything and after that have a "install on first disk option" i really think that a lots of people that have this kind of hardware want to install freeness i have tried to install freenas on this server many times, and finally i got an workaround.. BUT the problem is that i can reboot the server. I had to be there and start it with the keyboard installed..

---------------- GUIDE -----------------------------------------
i found an "easy" way to run freenas on a 4200-ehw!!!! (the one
without the dom)
A USB-Stick (512mb should be more then enough is required)
1. clean the usb stick (or a partition) - dont format it somehow..
just make some empty space without any filesystem or stuff (use
gparted "delete" option) .. and remember the directory (e.g. /dev/sdb)
2. install freenas embedded on the stick...
go to freenas.org and download the latest version (i used 0.7...
something)
open terminal
cd to the download directory
sudo su
gunzip -c ***X.img | dd of=/dev/YYYY
(where ***X is the name of the freenas!!embedded!! image and YYYY is
the usb device name)
3. prepare the nas (attach all storage (i used 4*1.5TB), attach
network cable, attach power supply,
attach usb-stick and usb-keyboard!!!)
then start from usb (press and hold reset button - press power button
- release reset button)
now freenas os will boot (wait for about 1 min!!!!!!!!!!!!)
4. now some simple configuration steps are to be made blindly...
after you waited a minute!!!!!! press the following buttons in the
following order:
1
Enter
Enter
n
Enter
Enter
(this configures eth0 as the standard - network interface)
2
Enter
Enter
Enter
(wait 10 seconds here)
Enter
(this tells freenas to acquire an ip via dhcp)
5. go to your router to find out the ip adress or guess  e.g.
192.168.1.107 -> this depends on your router settings
6. type ip in browser and enjoy
