Since some folks, me included, are having issues installing FreeNAS with the iso file, I'd like to figure out how to install FreeNAS after a complete FreeBSD install.
Specifically section 2.3.1 for details on how to do this.
Please note that FreeNAS is made to boot and run off a USB stick. There is no good (supported) way to install it to a hard drive and use that same drive for storage. If you are having problems even getting the installer to boot and write out the image on the hardware you want to use I would expect you will have all kinds of odd problems with the system once you start to use it. I think it's better to sort your rig out properly before trying any sort of work-around.
I would also like to do this.
I'm running a pfsense box, and a NAS box. the NAS box is on a server with 2 quad core CPU's and 64 GB of ram, and I would rather be able to jail multipule processes on one BSD system jailed (all being accessed only by IP).
It seems that it should be able to be dropped into a jail situation seemlessly.
