It was about the integration of Sickbeard, Couch Potato, Sabznd, HTPC Manager, Plex, XMBC and sickrage.

Waaayyyy over my head but fun. I want to set up a virtual machine to play with before I do this on my new build. Curious what some of you think.

I am confused by the plex/xmbc thing. Plex is expanding left and right making tons of improvements but it still seems like XMBC has better visuals. Does this matter if I am only serving to Roku's?

Here is the youtube link

In a nut shell, it's a matter of your own preference.

XBMC is both the server (media container) and the player. Plex in most cases has an application for each separate part.
Since this is a FREENAS forum, Plex plugin in this case is the Media Server, which you could use any compatible player with it. The native Plex player or even XBMC on its various appliances.

For further information I would ask on Plex/XBMC forums...

Thanks Joshua. Your video gave me a very small clue as to what is happening and what I need to do. Honestly, for people like me you could make that video three hours and I would have bought it lol. Thanks again

MtK. I will check over in the forums but I think that's why Plex is built in because it can serve so many clients. I have heard of some using both but not sure if I understand that yet. I will keep looking. My main concern is it has to serve Roku as I cut my cord and increase my bandwidth lol. I sure wish I could wire the house:(

Plex is built into what? Freenas...?!
Cause it's not...

But still I don't understand the problem you are trying to solve or the issue your dealing with (if any)...

Just to nitpick, Plex is not built-in, it's run in a sandbox; aka jail.

To feed to a Roku you can run Emby (previously Mediabrowser) and install the plugin on the Roku box. That's what I did on my mother-in-law's Roku and she can stream from my Emby server on my HTPC 75 miles away. Also, I travel for a living and Emby is perfect for watching my shows in the hotel room!

Its more of a curiosity thing at this point and not really a problem. Perhaps built-in is a poor choice of words but there is a Plex jail. In the video I watched he said that he uses plex to server phone and tablets but I was under the impression from the video that he uses XMBC for main viewing. My guess is he is serving the data to a small HTPC sort of device and using xmbc there but its a complete guess. It really is just curiosity as I am locked into plex (Lifetime plan) and roku because its easy and cheap.

Well, on a small HTPC, I woukd probably have XBMC as a player as well, cause it's 'lighter' then the Plex equivalent and somehow more supported/ported for various devices.
Still Plex server is (or at least should be)... on a server
