This was a good way to check you had a good install or update, and could alert you your boot drive was going south. Will this be resurrected in 12?

The fact that the system now (for the past five years or so) boots from a ZFS pool which is regularly scrubbed would seem to address this, wouldn't it?

No, scrubs wouldn't catch an initially corrupted install. What the validate button did was compare the installed files against their known hashes.

...which wasn't what I said. I'd suspect that regular scrubs would, as I quoted, "alert you your boot drive was going south."

Checking install files against their know hashes could be nice was to know if an attacker replaced certain files...
