Hello all,
I just installed nas 9. 3 on my hardware with 6gb memory and it shows only 3.5gb for some reason. I have 64bit supported cpu and its enabled in bios.
Any help appreciated.

Regards,
Anil

I'm not surprised as the minimum requirements for 9.3 is 8GB of RAM.

Per the forum rules, post your system specs. Also, where are you reading the 3.5gb? Post a screen capture. If you are correct, then I suspect you have only 4GB RAM being reported by your hardware.

As Dru said, FreeNAS requires 8GB RAM, however in my opinion it may run fine if you do not load it up with jails/add-on applications.

And your system specs are? What MB do you have? In the BIOS do you have memory allocated for built in video? How is the RAM configured on your MB?

At a shell window type the below code and report back the results
Code:
dmesg | grep memory

I have a discrete video card,
Here is the Dmesg command output:

[root@NAS] ~# dmesg | grep memory
real memory = 3756548096 (3582 MB)
avail memory = 3591143424 (3424 MB)

And what motherboard do you have? Honestly, I've asked the same basic questions several times today and it's like pulling teeth. I'm not sure why we have those very basic forum rules.

According to FreeNAS, you do not have 6GB of RAM. If you expect any further help provide the model number of the motherboard and RAM modules, they are crucial to offer further assistance.

The simple answer so that you don't waste too much time on this is:
"FreeNAS won't work on this hardware."

I strongly advise either (1) entirely different hardware (see hardware recommendation sticky) or (2) a different operating system and filesystem.
