Get the X10SL7 simply for the extra SATA ports you'll need for the 8 drives. The Asrock board's SATA ports on the marvel controller has been problematic for some.

After about one month of reading and playing with freeNAS on an old machine with 10 HDDs

I have purchased everything already above including self adhesive Velcro for the SSDs only the Motherboard and CPU to come (only ONE drive from each zvolume on the add in card)

I opened your link @Spearfoot and are happy to report it says I have purchased this item

I did like the C2550D4I but the reviews say they are dying after a year or so and the X10SL7-F fell in price

I will get the X10SL7-F this week

This also means if the G3258 is to slow I can save up for a Xeon 1230, 1231 or 1235

Let the testing begin

Thanks for the help

Xeon 1230, 1231 or 1235
The integrated graphics on the 1235 wouldn't be used with FreeNAS, and last I saw, the 1231 was both faster and cheaper than the 1230. Unless the 1235 is cheaper yet, the 1231 would be the way to go.
