I could not find a newer thread, found some recommendations...but not on the scale i am looking for.

I am between these 4 listings for harddrives, but i plan on purchasing 24 harddrives or so and maybe 2 or 3 for cold spares:

If anyone else has recommendations for 2-4TB harddrives that are preferably under $100 each or have make it offer for multiple drives that would be great. I already picked up x3 M1015's to use

I wouldn't buy either used or refurbished (especially "seller refurbished") drives for a NAS, since it's presumably to store data you don't want to lose. I have long been a Seagate user (except for notebook drives, where I bought Hitachi), but if I were going to buy more drives now I would buy the 4TB HGST (Hitachi) NAS drives; check the feedback ratings on NewEgg and compare those with the other brands -- but they wouldn't be under $100 each.

I'm with Z300M. I'd *never* buy a used hard drive, except from a close friend that I *know* takes care of his stuff.

I was expecting $200+ per drive, but i see them listed on newegg and amazon between 125-184 which actually makes me happy. I have x4 4TB reds that were originally $210 each so i was trying to stay away from buying 10-15 hdds at $200+ but i have some more looking around to do :) thanks

7200RPM mean more IOPS, but more heat to deal with and more waste energy. I never recommend 7200RPM except in commercial installations.

Ya im looking at the 5400 but they have like 3 reviews and it balances out to middle. I dont see any better options these are probably what Ill go with.

Any tips for getting some from different batches? Ive always stuck to the idea that hard drives made together are likely to die together. Maybe ill just check everywhere online and buy 2 at a time.

I personally don't worry about batches and all that. I do lots of tests before I put them in production and keep good backups. ;)
