HPE Microserver Gen10 no longer fully shuts down from pressing the power switch on the case since 11.2

I was wondering whether there are other people that use FreeNAS on a Gen10 that have experienced the same issue. I have noticed that since 11.2, my box doesn't reliably fully shut down any more when I use the power button on the case. I have looked at what happens here by hooking up a screen: it looks like a clean shut-down, including ceasing screen output, but the machine remains powered on indefinitely.

It does not behave like this all the time and seems related to uptime somehow: the shorter the machine has been on, the more likely it is to fully shut down. I am also not entirely sure if 11.2 is the culprit: because I wanted to be able to see what was happening on-screen when updating from 11.1 to 11.2, I added hw.pci.realloc_bars="1" as a loader tunable (otherwise screen output is broken on these machines). As I run my box headless, I hadn't bothered with this prior to that.

Has anyone else had issues with this? It may sound like a minor inconvenience, but these boxes come with overheating protection that simulates pressing the power button for a graceful emergency shutdown. This feature is now effectively useless. I understand that I shouldn't need this feature by providing sufficient airflow, but still.

Update: it appears to affect acpi shutdowns in general. I just tried to shut down my server from the GUI after a couple of weeks of uptime, same result as with the power button. Shutting down after couple of minutes of uptime works fine though.

Interesting. I just shut down one of my HP Gen7 servers running 11.2-U2. It shut down cleanly. Just saying.

Are you able to boot into 11.1? If so, do the symptoms disappear? If they do, then 11.2 is likely to be the culprit. There are quite a few issues with 11.2 at present. Unless you're prepared to persevere with 11.2, the recommendation seems to be to stay with 11.1 for the moment https://forums.freenas.org/threads/possible-new-install-whitch-version.74072/#post-514349

Not an option. I upgraded my pool and was very relieved in general that I could update the software in my jails again :) .

Since you didn't provide any system specs, it is difficult to offer suggestions. However, I have the exact same problem with shutdown on a Windows machine, and have tracked it down to a hardware problem.
