I'm using TrueNAS 12.0-U5.1 and decided to enable the built-in OpenVPN Server service.
I got most of it working properly, then edited a static route and some firewall and natd tunables.
Then I decided to have the service start automatically. Unfortunately, I think I may have clicked the "Client" service box (instead of the "Server" service box) in the Service GUI panel.
When I rebooted, the Dashboard no longer worked properly (or load extremely slowly with the fonts wrong). I can see from the log window that the system is trying to do something with the OpenVPN client (which is not configured, and therefore has no configuration file).
I was able to get into the system via SSH, and thought I could simply back out the variables I set manually. I see the ones I set in /etc/rc.conf.freenas and proceeded to comment out all of the settings I changed (via the Web GUI) prior to the reboot. (I also see that the openvpn_client_enable is set to YES and the openvpn_server_enable is set to NO (leading me to believe that my eyes "slid" as I moved across the GUI page to click the appropriate box). After making the change, I saved the file and rebooted.
When the system came up, it was still doing the same thing. I noticed that the changes I had made to rc.conf.freenas were no longer there and the time/date stamp on that file was the reboot time. I then searched and found that evidently this file is created during boot. After searching for a long while, I decided to ask here where this file is created so I can back-out the changes and get the GUI interface back!
Thanks!
