How to copy files from external hdd

Hi I have newly setup freeNas 9.1.1 to house all of our files which are currently saved in different external hdds. These are almost 3TB files and copying them from windows 7 explorer through 100mb lan network seems slow.

How can I plugged my external hdd to freenas and copy the files directly.

We strongly encourage you to use the information found in these forums and search before asking a question that has been covered ad nauseam. This very topic has been covered time and time again.

Frankly, since it's probably on NTFS formatted disks, it's probably safer for you to continue doing it the way you're doing it now.

This morning, we had a new user lose 800Gb of data. Had they tranferred the data the way you're doing it, the data would probably still be intact.

I'd look at upgrading your network to gigabit components.
