I just wanted to say hello to you all guys out there all over the world.

I am sitting at my homebase here in Cologne/Germany.


I recently finished an NAS build using the following:


Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180
2 GB Kingston DDR2-533
MSI G41M4-F
Seagate HDD 60 GB (IDE -> bootdevice, USB boot seemed not to be possible on MSI G41 after 6 hours of trying any USB device I got here.)
WD Caviar Green 1 TB
FreeNas 8

can you get usb boot device to boot another computer? can you get any non-freenas usb boot to work? are you using newest bios? have you checked bios settings.

Instead of USB, you could use one of your PATA channels for a CF card. they sell nice converters, i have a SYBA SD-CF-IDE-BR IDE to Compact Flash Adapter (Bracket Version) with an 8 GB cf card in it. i'd never use a pata controller for my data disks so it's a good fit for me.


I'm sure you can find them closer than this one in California.
