I have been using computers since I was a kid, and while I'm not fully a developer or IT I have a degree in electronics and computer engineering. I've been fooling around with OS/2, BeOS and what not.

I have read tons of articles but I'm still not at all instructed on stuff like how ZFS works and most other things.

I came here to learn and to ask some questions since it seems I should NOT use FreeNAS but I'm still tempted to do it.

Are there any articles that I can find on how to rebuild/rescue data on lost pools or whatever bad thing can happen to a FreeNAS ZFS raid? (Z1)

Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome :D

You can't recover ZFS pools (unless you go to one of a few companies that do ZFS recovery and pay at least a 5 digits price...) the point of ZFS is to prevent data corruption at any cost, once it's corrupted it's too late.
