Hi

Can someone please tell me if there is a way to answer the following questions
(Details follow the questions for ease of reading):

1. Have I sustained permanent data loss?
2. If yes, how can I determine which file(s) are damaged?
3. Are there any actions/tests I should run as a follow up.

I have a cron job dump the smart on all four drives in ZPOOL every night, and I don't see anything abnormal.

The reference URL given is useless.

Thanks in advance.

I am running the following version of FreeNas
Code:
FreeNAS Build	FreeNAS-8.0.4-RELEASE-p2-x64 (11367)
Platform	Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G620 @ 2.60GHz
Memory	16281MB
OS Version	FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE-p7

and I got the following output
Code:

3/ zpool scrub and watch the result ,
it seems right now that both ada0 and ada1 has errors, you cannot replace both at the same time, you must decide
which one to replace first. The scrub might give a hint.

then replace fault disks, one at a time, allow to resilver before replace the second disc.

1. It told you, "Applications are unaffected."

3. Check the smart info:
Code:
smartctl -a /dev/ada0

smartctl -a /dev/ada1
To test the drives:
Code:
smartctl -t long /dev/ada0

smartctl -t long /dev/ada1

Then check smart info again.

Results of Tests - Does this look OK?

Thank you peterh and paleoN for your replies - does it look like I have any hardware problems?
I can't see anything obviously wrong. I'm wondering if the issue was caused by a connected
client machine crash.

Below are the results of all the tests I have run:

I ran a scrub, and got the following results:
Code:

Is there anything that I'm missing, or am I correct in assuming that I don't have
a serious hardware problem (assuming I don't see another reoccurance of this
problem)?

Thanks in advance for your input.

What you probably have is hard disk starting to have bad sectors or some other minor issue. You should continue to do your scrubs regularly and see if the amount of data that needs repairs on each scrub starts increasing. If it starts increasing rapidly you should replace that disk. Otherwise its nothing big to worry about.

Your data is still save as long as you don't have 3 disks that have problems in the same sectors at the same time. It's pretty unlikely to say the least. If you start having files corrupted when you do a # zpool status it will list some files and recommend you restore those from backup.

Thank you peterh and paleoN for your replies - does it look like I have any hardware problems?
I can't see anything obviously wrong.
It looks fine to me as well.

As you can see from the results, no bad sectors. Unless you meant it was a transient problem and it failed to read the sector earlier which is quite possible.

Like noobsauce80 said, keep an eye on your scrubs. You should have a regular schedule for smart tests for all your drives.

Thanks very much for the input noobsauce80 & paleoN.

No further data issues, but is it likely that this might have something to do with it?

I'd also appreciate guidance as to what automatic tests I should configure.

Thanks.

I don't think that thread is related. I'd just do weekly scrubs of your zpool(s) and see what happens to the errors. Enable SMART if it isn't already and perhaps do a short test every 30 mins.
