Try deleting all partitions from the HDD before you attempt to install any operating system -- the "This is a NAS data disk" error message means the disk contains partitions.
Thanks. I tried but it failed again and so i went ahead and successfully installed FreeNAS 9.10.1

I have watched several tutorials and read several articles and played around with Windows CFS Share and no matter what i do i still cannot write to the network drive. Destination Folder Access Denied is what i keep getting in Windows.
Among my networks is Freenas which I didn't have to map and within it the data set i created. Click on that and the folders opens and i cannot proceed from there. Any suggestions please?

That's a different subject... :)

Search the forum for "cifs folder access denied" and you'll get more than 50 hits linking to threads which will help you configure your shares.

I deleted and recreated windows cifs shares to solve a slightly similar problem - I could create and delete files but not change their names.
