Hi guys,
I wanted to check with you before I start upgrade. Thanks in advance!
I have a ZFS RAID1 volume on two internal SATA 2TB HDDs.
I want to move data to a new 4 TB RAID1 volume.
My server (Proliant Gen8 microserver) has two USB3 connectors.
I thought of connecting both new 4 TB HDDs via USB3 and create a new RAID1 volume.
Then copy data to new volume, remove internal HDDs and put new 4 TB HDDs in internal SATA slots.

Qs:
Would this work?
Will FreeNAS recognize HDDs after they have been moved from USB3 to SATA?
And how do I copy data - with "zfs clone"?
Any caveats?

Again, thanks in advance!

Or you can just replace disks one by one and wait for resilvering each time ;)

USB is a bad idea, especially USB3.

No problem ;) Just be sure to follow the manual to do the disk replacement to avoid any problem.

Is autoexpand value defaulted to yes now? Didn't I read something in the past about needed to change a value?

Yep, and it has been for a long time.

Because it's not very well supported and it is unreliable like any USB peripheral. If you can use SATA, eSATA, network (not WiFi), ... then always use that instead of USB.
