Hi,

I have a hp microserver n54l for my freenas server. 16GB of memory.
Most of use is for music streaming with subsonic and plex.
For movies and series i use xbmc on a intel nuc.
My system is a little slow on freenas menus. I want to build my own freenas system:
Wich hardware you recommend:
Supermicro motherboards?
Intel xeon or Intel Pentium or Intel I3?

If you plan to transcode media, I would use a xeon or i3 cpu. The i3 will handle transcoding for two streams without a problem.

For fileserving only, any of the CPU's will be OK.

Hi, thanks for your help, it is for transcode media with with streams, i will go for i3, also the following plugins will be allways on:

Sickrage
Couchpotato
Subsonic
Plex

At this moment i have the microserver n54l and inside freenas menus it is very slow.
Wich power supply you recommend for a fractal node 304. The corsair Cp-9020077 is ok?

Right now iam choosing:

Supermicro MBD-X9SCM-F-O Sockel 1155 - Board

Corsair RM Series 450Watt 80 PLUS Gold ATX/EPS - Power supply

Fractal design 304 - Chassis

Intel I3 4160 - Processor

Crucial CT2KIT102472BD160B 16GB (2x8GB) - Memory

Is ok the processor? Should i go to an X10 board?

Your hardware selection will work fine but if your building new why not go with the X10 series and socket 1150? Prices are nearly the same for each and the X10 series have proven to work well with freenas.

On hardware recommendations it says Board X10SLL+-F but i just can find the board X10SLL-F. Is the same? is ok the -F board?

Yes that one will be fine. The difference is the X10SLL-F has one i-217 and one i-210 LAN ports and the X10SLL+-F has two i-210 LAN ports. Either will work just fine for freenas.

Wouldn't it be nice if all X10 motherboards that matter were listed in one place?

The Supermicro X9SCM are socket 1155 boards, and the processor you are considering is a socket 1150 cpu. You cannot use the X9SCM board with that processor. An X10 board is the way to go.

If you were to pick up a previous generation i3 processor, then you would use the X9 board. Don't get confused and mismatch your motherboard and CPU.
