Hello

The other day I ran the update to FreeNAS 11.1-u1 via the gui. After rebooting the gui goes to the login. When i type the username and password i get the following error pasted below. My addons still work. Im watching plex fine. SSH still works, i can see my data drive mounted. If i access FreeNAS via the network in windows it shows no folders. Can someone help. Relatively new to freenas. Also I downgraded back to 11.1 and its still showing same error prob. Thanks in advance

Was this logging into the new UI or the old UI? How did you downgrade back to 11.1?

The old gui it happened to. I tried the new gui, entered user and pass and it just sat there with that little activity bar moving and nothing happens. I couldnt find how to revert or downgrade via a command line so what I did was #freenas-update FreeNas-11.1-RELEASE-manual-update.tar in ssh. probably not the right way but it was the only way i could find work out how to do it.

That type of error occurs when you switch a config between nightlies and a stable branch. The correct way to "downgrade" is to reboot and to select an earlier boot environment. Otherwise, weird stuff happens as changed config db settings don't get properly migrated. Best way to fix this is to do a fresh install of U1 on a different stick and importing a saved config from a non-nightly (or before you made changes on a nightly).

Thanks but is 11.1-u1 not a stable branch as i used the gui originally to update it and then it went all wrong.

It is. Were you on a nightly at some point? What is the output of beadm list?

havnt been on any nightly build. Dont trust them. I found something interesting though. Download and installed 11.1-u1 on a different usb stick. After install I reboot it and it would come up with an error.

fatal trap 12 page fault while in kernel mode freenas , thought is might be the usb stick so changed the stick same error. So downloaded ver 11.1 and installed. Same error. So went down to 11.0-u4 and it is running perfectly.

Luckily when i attached a monitor to my original setup it allowed me to go into a previous install through grub . Ran 11.0-u4 which was working. Downloaded the config - yes I didnt do a backup of the config originally. Lesson Learnt. And uploaded the config on the new install. Everything seems fine.

Is there perhaps a bug in 11.1 upwards.

Thanks for your help it did the trick
