Good resources to learn about networking technology?

Hi there,

I have recently made a FreeNAS box and have been finding it hard to bring my self up to speed on all the networking terminology and technology.

I used to know a bit about it so I am not a complete beginner but being involved with it for the last 6 -7 years, hs left me dead in the water.

Could people point me toward so good leaning resources, as I would like to know more about increasing my networks performance?

Start off by reading things like the stickies here. We have a nice sticky on 10G networking basics, and there's lots of other stuff floating around. You can basically search on a specific topic of interest and you're likely to find useful information on it. Some of us have been doing networking since forever, and I've probably abused FreeBSD boxes to do things that you didn't know they could ;-)

Excellent thank you for the advise. I have been looking through these but find sometimes they delve in a bit too deep.

I was hoping for a guide or even a book that talked me through the different techs in a logical way. I realise this is difficult with the nature of networking but hoping for something to start me off.

If there's something that I've written where you're finding it hard to get your head around, feel free to let me know. I try to write stuff to make it accessible to people without the decades of familiarity with networking that I have, but the plain fact of it is that when you work with the stuff daily you sometimes forget what's difficult to a newcomer.
