I am ftp'ing millions of files to the FreeNAS system. Seems to be cranking along brilliantly. I don't see any issues on the admin page. System utilization looks like it's barely ticking over. I was in the server room this morning and brought up the console on the KVM and I see this (see attached image).

Any concerns? If this is a problem...what needs to be done to remedy it?

Thanks!

Something is filling up /var (possibly a log). If you create a dataset named syslog and reboot the system, it will start storing logs on the dataset instead which will fix the issue if a log was overflowing /var.

Probably not a good idea in 9.1.1 as DoulosGeek is using FTP heavily and the syslog dataset will prevent proftpd from starting. The issue should be fixed in 9.2.0 (https://bugs.freenas.org/issues/3218). Meanwhile you can check what is consuming capacity in /var and remove unnecessary logs.

Yeah that's right.

Do not create a syslog dataset until the devs fix that bug if you're using FTP.

Maybe the "problem" you're experiencing is that the syslog information is being written to a small RAM disk partition which is filling up because you're putting so much in there because of hte "millions of files". I think you can safely ignore the message, if the files appear to be transferred correctly. That's what *I* would do, but God knows I'm no expert on the idiosyncracies of the partitions and RAM disks and syslogs..
