Hi All,

I've been using FreeNAS 8.2beta3, and now 8.2beta4 for a few months on a HP Proliant N40L. Works brilliantly!

One thing I've noticed, and it's started to annoy me, is that it periodically beeps. This seems to coincide with machines connecting to it - for example waking a Macbook from sleep, as TimeMachine connects to AFP I get a beep. Or perhaps it's related to the ZFS periodic snapshots...

There's nothing in /var/log/messages (other than mention of machines connecting), and zpool status is clean, etc. So AFAICS there's no health problem on the machine. I've googled and searched and can't find anyone else reporting this on FreeNAS.

Google brought up: http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/turning-off-freebsd-system-hardware-beep-linux/ which I'll do, but I'm worried that if there is a real alarm this will silence it.

Does anyone know what might cause the system beep to trigger? Should I worry about disabling it entirely? Any other hints on how to debug this?

Cheers,
James
