FTP Base Directory

I am trying to setup FTP where all users will be in 1 directory.

I am not sure why, but no matter what it attempts to connect my users /nonexistant. I have tried it with both chroot on and off. My user is also a part of wheel and ftp for testing.

I want any local FTP user to be dumped into /mnt/VOL1/FTP. Is that possible?

Sounds like the users' home directory hasn't been set to the desired dataset (nonexistant is the default). See http://doc.freenas.org/9.3/freenas_services.html#ftp-in-chroot for an example.

but if I set everyone's home directory to /mnt/VOL1/FTP, doesn't that interfere with other things that the home directory may be used for?

Can proftpd be modified to just serve a single directory and ignore home folders?

You can set the "Path" in FTP, but that is only for anonymous connections. If you want users to authenticate, set their home directory. If you want them to each have a unique home directory, create a dataset for each user and use that for their home directory.
