Fresh install 12.0-U6.1 stalls on boot

I had 11.3-U8 on a usb drive. I did a manual fresh install (not upgrade) from a 2nd usb drive on the existing 11.3 drive. After reboot, it hangs here (see attached). Any thoughts? It's done this two or three times now, never being able to get to fully boot.

Should I wipe the old 11.3 drive and try again?

Preface, I'm not worried about losing data as I have backups of everything.

Try a different drive for your 2nd install attempt. USB thumb drives aren't recommended any longer, as they corrupt way too easily.

That seemed to be the issue. I completely wiped USB drive and re-installed successfully. Now I'm having an issue importing my pool. I found a similar issue thread stating to use a USB2 device and not a USB3 device, which I am using USB3. I have a PCI-E M.2 adapter coming this week. I'll work on getting a fresh install on that and try importing pool then.

I updated my sig to represent new boot media (250GB M.2) and updated TrueNAS version. Install goes smoothly from two separate USB2 flash drives. When I boot to M.2 drive I get the error 'Reboot and select proper boot device…'. I've tried updating bios to use UEFI and Legacy with no luck. I've tried TrueNAS UEFI and Bios boot methods with no luck.

I'm stuck on how to move forward. Any advice?

How many M.2 slots are on your PCI-E adapter? You may be dealing with a port multiplier, which will cause no end of problems.

You want an adapter that either does a 1:1 mapping of the slot to NVMe, or that provides SATA emulation.

Which BIOS version are you running on this board? It sounds like the BIOS can't boot from NVMe, unfortunately. On my system, I use a M.2 SATA SSD connected to a M.2-to-USB3 controller for my boot disk, and most BIOSs can boot from USB3.
