Hello,
Ill start off with hardware,

I am using a Lenovo TS140 with a i3 cpu
There are 3 seagate desktop drives in raid 5
Using CIFS i am only able to get around 100mbps (11MBps)

This seems very low to me,
I am wired using all CAT5E

I am using a ubiquiti router and a buffalo gigabyte switch
(i even tried a different gigabyte switch , but it made no difference,)

The Freenas box is connected to the second port of the router (ubiquiti edge)
The speed is showing it is 1000mbps

I checked the ifconfig in the shell on the freenas
and it is saying 10gigbaseT (10Gb)

The odd thing is that on the back of the port on the TS140, the light stays orange (normaly this means 100 mbps?)

Do you all think this is a software problem or something wrong with the NIC?

I tried hooking it up to the switch,
different internet cables,
even different computers
but nothing changed

If it matters im using a lenovo thinkstation p310 i7 6700 to transfer the files, but have also tried others

Thanks,
Let me know if i left anything out,.

Thanks again,
Dave

The transfer speed of 11MB/s (MegaBytes/sec) aligns with the orange light (100 Mega Bits/sec). It could be a bad cable or a bad NIC, but I would say it's something physical.

Thats what i was thinking,
i tried different cords, even made a new one,,

Tried a different switch,

Its weird, the router shows that its 1000mbps, but the back of the ts140 has a orange light..

in your opinion am i better off adding a pcie network card or try to get it warrentied through lenovo?

If the NIC in the Lenovo isn't Intel, I'd just pick up an Intel NIC. If it's Intel, then do the warranty thing.

Handmade Ethernet cables tend to be super-sketchy. Make sure your client is also gigabit.

Sorry i miss read it,,,

Any idea what might be wrong?

Im lost in freenas tbh,. i come from windows server, but dont want to spend the money for my home lol
I would check your switch. Make sure it sees it as 1gbps, and maybe force 1gbps on the NICs instead of auto negotiate

You don't need a command. It's in the GUI.

Just because your switch is 1gbps doesn't mean that port is set for 1gbps

Thanks
I logged into the switch and it is showing that port as green
Link/Up
Speed 1000/Full

So the switch should be working at 1gb as far as i can tell
