iXSystems says max on the mini is 32, however the ASRock board seems compatible up to 64.... Leads me to believe that iX is using Samsung Dimms that are only in 8gb form. (Anyone know that samsung part #?)

Moreover, it seems that the Samsung dimms are not on ASRock's official compatibility list: http://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=C2750D4I#Memory

Which leads me to believe there may be more brands that work, but are not listed. The only 16gb dimms on the "official list" are from a company "Memphis" which I've never heard of before.

Here's a screenshot of the DIMM inside the mini.

There is only 1 existing 16GB UDIMM. Since it is the only one existing, it's the only one working. Memphis seems to rebrand the Intelligent Memory sticks.

nonetheless, a Xeon D or Xeon E5 system with 4x16GB RDIMMs is cheaper and the Xeon D is available in ITX form factor.

I've been in touch with Memphis and ASRock regarding those 16GB modules. Memphis is a waste of time and got shuffled around before finally stopped getting replies. Seems ASRock directly can supply the modules however they are VERY (picture a flashing red neon sign around that VERY) expensive. Pretty much what marbus90 stated would be better.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want more than 32GB of RAM on a FreeNAS Mini? Is it to solve a particular problem, or just an aspiration?
