Hi,
Looking to replace my aging Synology Diskstation, and looking at a FreeNAS system since it is open source.
Although i ideally would like to build the system myself, it's just not practical time-wise - So, FreeNAS Mini it is.

So a couple of questions that i could not find the answer to.

The components does not seem to have been updated for a while? I don't want to buy one now, if the next gen of hardware is right around the corner.
What Harddrives are shipped with the Mini? It's only specified Size.
Can I use any harddrives I want if I don't choose the preinstalled ones, such as WD Red or Seagate Ironwolf? What is the max size pr. disk?
The Read and/or write cache, is it worth the money?

Thank for any help and advice :)

iX uses WD Red disks with the Mini, but you can use any SATA disks you want with no capacity limitation AFAIK. Whether the read cache and log device would be worth the money would depend on how you intend to use the system.
