Freenas goes in panic mode at random

Hello everyone.
I am very new with freenas and I am having a hard time deciphering this error message.
I hope someone could help me out.
It crashes at random and I have no clue why.
I added a picture with a screenshot. (taken with my phone.)

Could someone tell me what to do.

-This setup is still in a test phase so there is just test data on it till I trust the system.

mem: Kingston Technology / 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Module KVR16E11/8
HDD: 2x WD RED 3TB
Freenas version:FreeNAS-9.2.1.5-RELEASE-x64 (80c1d35)

Any pattern to this "randomness"? At what point does it happen?

Considering that the motherboard you are using is in use so much here I have 3 basic theories.

1. Hardware failure or malfunction. (BIOS update available???)
2. Improper BIOS settings for FreeNAS/FreeBSD.
3. Some kind of inappropriate configuration in FreeNAS.

#3 is kind of a stretch because FreeNAS/FreeBSD should boot even if you do completely stupid things, it just might take forever or you might not have access to all of your hardware.

No pattern I could find. Some times it's stable for a couple of days. I usually notice that it's down when it no longer shows up in my network. When I turn on the monitor I see a message like I posted.

Depends on alot of factors. Does your BIOS not support some obscure feature that comes into play at some particular point?

As for hardware, is it overheating and causing problems? Just because the CPU temp is fine doesn't mean some other component isn't overheating either.

Is it an intermittent connection on the board?

No way to know except to start ruling out as many factors as you can.

I checked for overheating by watching IPMI feature of the board. no temp alerts. That part looks fine.
I am going to check the IPMI to look for a mobo problem monday.

You do realize only like 3 components have temperature monitors on them? So no, you can monitor every temp on that board and STILL have some capacitor, diode, or regulator overheat. Do NOT be fooled. Unless you're going to tell me you checked the board with a thermal imager you'll probably never be able to prove otherwise. That's just something that will fall into the bucket of "just RMA the damn board and let Asrock solve their problem".

What kind of device is your installation on? USB Stick? What brand and size? Can your try another one? (reinstall on other stick and load previously saved config) to rule that out.

It's installed on a USB stick.

I could het a different USB stick to rule it out.

I see in your picture you have an "unorthodox" enclosure. Some motherboards do not react well to being mounted in a non-metallic enclosure because they use the mounting screws as electrical grounding points. Could the random errors also be EMF interference because of the enclosure?

That,.... I did not think of. Monday I will add some ground wires. Hope it will resolve some possible static buildup. Will comment back as soon as I'm done.

Shouldn't be a problem since everything ends up sharing the PSU ground.

I would suggest you test your RAM. Not sure it is related, but this is something easy to do, and a eventuality removed if the result is OK.

That's not entirely true. Ground works completely different when you get higher in frequency.

While I could argue that the MB would be badly designed for not being able to handle free mounting (some MB even comes in a box that can be used as a case for it) there might be EMI sources that you normally not detect causing problems.

It might also be ESD damage considering the plastic environment.

okay, I tried a reinstall. Removed the USB stick, erased it and put a fresh image on it (following the procedure)
after booting it halts at this...
whats going on?
