Hi,

I am planning to configure a system with 20 Hard disk of 2 TB . So I have to create a single pool or I can create two volumes of 10 each. Further I am thinking to configure both the volumes in raidz2 configuration.

I am planning to buy a supermicro xeon based processor server and 32 GB ECC Ram.

Kindly guide if I am planning correctly or please suggest.

When I go to http://www.servethehome.com/raid-calculator/

It tells me I will get about 32 TB of usable space using 20 x 2 TB hard disks.

Please guide me (technology champions) if I can create two volumes and both in raidz2 or you suggest something different!

Your kind suggestion will be highly appreciated and helpful!

Thanks,

2 Vdevs with 10 RAIDZ2 drives each are fine. But why not just go with a single 10 4TB disk RAIDZ2? It's simpler and it's probably cheaper, too.
However, keep in mind you'll have significantly less space than 32GB. Why? Drives are sold in powers of ten, most software on the planet uses power of two units.

For instance, a "2TB" hard drive has something close to 2 000 000 000 000 bytes. 2TB are actually 2^41 bytes, which is 2 199 023 255 552 bytes, or roughly 10% more than a "2TB" hard drive.
