Hello Everyone,

I am able to get some cheap sas hard drives and I would like to buid a system with freenas.

My questions are as follows?

Can I build a FreeNas system with SAS drives?
How big of a power supply would I need?

Components I am looking at:

Asus PRIME H310I-PLUS R2.0
Intel Core™ i3-9100F
SF Series SF450 Modular SFX Power Supply, 450W
6x MG04SCA60EE Dell Toshiba 6TB 7.2K 12Gbps SAS 3.5in
IBM M1015 9220-8I SAS CARD
16GB memory
SilverStone Computer Case DS380B-US

I would appreciate any insight?

Thank You

Mike (Gazooli)

You might want to find another motherboard - no ECC support on this one

Depends on what you intend to do with the FreeNAS appliance. FWIW, I run a 450W PSU with 6 drives as well. But if your case allows for expansion, then you should plan for that as well.

If you are going to buy all of these, then buy server grade components from the get-go. If you already have these lying around, then no harm in using it as your FreeNAS system, if everything works.

@gazooli If you are in the US, then have a look at the used market on ebay. You will be able to build a very good home server for a lot less money. If you are not in the US, YMMV.
