It would be cool if FreeNAS did a " FreeNAS Buddy Check" ( BDC). I would like My lil FreNAS buddies to all give a shout out to each other. Sort of like a roll call. Then they could offer to share services with each other, FreeBuddy1 could say to the rest of her sisters that She is here, ready for duty, and offer to to share media such as movies, backups of config data base, offer to zfs snapshot, rsync, and even offer to be each others (sis) syslog servers. If they had unique names they could just look at arp and say hey there a new lil nas in our neighboorhood, lets give her a welcome call. Would be cool if they all had a secure ipsec tunnel between each other for their exchanges. Even better if they could all act to sync between each other if one goes down the other is still running. Sort of spread data in a mesh stripping across all of them, or they should be able to be turned into a majority node set cluster or a single quorum device cluster. Perhaps if one of them offered to go back to its roots and take on the duties of a router as well. http://www5.us.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/network-routing.html It would be cool to hang a bunch of lil nas off of one nas acting as a router. I would love for them to share computing power, or offer to load balance. Take it a step further there should be an option for these lil nas systems to check in on FreeNAS.org and offer to share some of their space to the cloud. An encrypted share could be made and non profit organizations should be able to share data there, or it could be used for torrents.
