FreeNAS Accounts Needed for LDAP Users?

I have enabled LDAP on my FreeNAS server running FreeNAS-11.1-U6. I'm relatively new to FreeNAS and LDAP, and I'm trying to figure out a way to have home directories automatically created in a designated "home" share on the FreeNAS server. I know this is possible when creating local FreeNAS accounts, so should I also create local accounts on the FreeNAS server for the LDAP users so that the home directories are available when users authenticate on an LDAP client machine? I'm thinking that creating accounts in LDAP, then recreating them in FreeNAS is not the optimal method. Right now I'm manually creating home directories and copying over /etc/skel files as new LDAP users are added. I have no local user accounts on the FreeNAS server.

You might be able to symlink the path for the ldap users home directories (for instance /home) to the dataset used as a homes share and let pam_mkhomedir do its thing.
