This is why it's recommended to have 2-3 boot drives on hand. If one fails, you have a spare ready to go.

Likewise, if one has a failed upgrade or you don't like the new version (bugs, etc), assuming you haven't upgraded your pool, you can easily roll back to the old version.

So, as an alternative to this boot drive cloning...

So how about having mirrored disks? Is it possible now 3 years later almost? Is it supported by FreeNAS 9.3.10 to have two SSD-s in mirror? (assuming I am willing to spend the money)

This thread is as out of date as it gets.

FreeNAS 9.3 and later use ZFS for the boot devices. Among other advantages, it allows for trivial mirroring of the boot device.
