In preparation while waiting for my ML10 to arrive in the mail, I started to think about my NAS storage configuration. By pulling drives out of my old external RAID backup and a quick trip to the store, I will have 2 x 3TB WD Red's and 2 x 2TB WD Red's. This will be my first ZFS build and my goal is redundancy. I'd like to create a mirror and would appreciate some advice/links to make this as painless as possible. I envision having approx 5TB to work with in a mirror. I'm likely to divide this into an NFS share and a Samba share for use on my home network.

Read the links in my signature. And read the manual.

as with many things, the answer is "depends"; reading is always good.
with not much info provided, the quick answer is:
basic mirror would just be 2x2TB+3x3TB. this can all be done in the GUI, should be selected automatically as optimal since you only have 4 drives. this will nuke all data though

It's a nice configuration. When you want more space replace both of the 2s (one at a time) with larger drives (say 6TB). Or alternatively if you have two more bays, add another two matched drives.
