thx @Jailer

The IPMI settings for change the RPM the fans , are very disaster i changed but the noised not reduced..

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the initial post i not explain that all is installed in ESXI 6.7, the idea is install the FREENAS in 256SSD VM and pass through the 2 ports 1GB I350 T4, and the SAS controller.

I purchase this SATA controller card is correct:

HBA HP h220 LSI 2308 6g PCIe x8 sas SATA it Mode FreeNAS Avago 9205-8i
https://www.ebay.es/itm/16307416630...04&_trkparms=gh1g=I163074166309.N41.S1.R1.TR2

This controller is pass through by ESXI 6.7 to the FREENAS

I planing to add a:

Option 1
5 DISK WD RED PRO 8TB (WD8003FFBX) with RAIDZ1 )
1 SSD SAMSUNG 860 EVO 1TB for Cache

Option 2:
5 WD RED 10TB (WD100EFAX) RAIDZ1
1 SSD SAMSUNG 860 EVO 1TB for Cache

Is correct?

Any recomendation??

Thx

To let the motherboard control the fan speed, you need to plug them into the motherboard fan connectors and I believe you need 4pin fans. If I recall correctly, my Fractal design cam with 3pin fans.

RaidZ1 is normally not recommended.

Also read up about using Cache. In 5 years of FreeNas, I have never needed one.

I bought some 4-pin fans myself, but my final conclusion was that SuperMicro motherboards do not do a good job with keeping the RPM/sound down. These server boards seem to be designed for high RPM server fans. For example, currently my SuperMicro 836 fans are running around 2300 rpm. That is far too high for most silent fans. You might be better off buying some fan speed controller and just monitor your temperatures yourself.

This is just my opinion and experience and other people may differ and have different experience.

Have a look around our forums regarding fan speed control - there are some fan oriented scripts among some recent posts (and a few older)
