Expanding Pool questions

Hi I got pool created with 2 VDev both got 3 hgst 12 TB sas hdds in z1. I want to extend it with another VDev with 3x 12 tb hgst sas in z1.My question if i do it that way all files that already in the pool wil be spread over to new vdev or its only new data will be wrote to 3 vdevs? Or I need recreate whole pool to gain speed increase from 3rd VDev ?

The existing data will remain where it is. As the data changes, re-writes will be to all three vdevs and any new writes also. If you have a lot of static data that will not change, you can re-balance the data across all three vdevs by copying the data to a new directory. Those writes will be to all three vdevs and when the data has been copied, the original location can be destroyed.
