Hello. Hopefully someone on here can help me. I'm a little new to FreeNAS.

I have a zpool set up between four 1 TB hard disks in a RAIDZ2. Currently there is only 2 GB of RAM in the unit running FreeNAS 8.3.0-RELEASE-p1
The machine runs fine (for the most part) I'm able to log in. I've created some datasets and set up the permissions how I like them. The only issue, and the reason for this post, is that when I move large files to the shared pool I get the following message in windows..."There is a problem accessing Z:/[directory]/[directory]/ Make sure you are connected to the network and try again." Then I have the options "Retry", "Skip", and "Cancel" Retry does nothing except bring up the same error a second time.

I get the above error after different periods of time and at different percentages of the transfer (one time it was like 98% finished transferring). Sometimes, but not very often, I am able to transfer the files successfully after a few tries. I am told that other people are also getting this error on their Mac computers as well. Transferring or saving smaller files works fine.

Also know that when I log into the GUI, I see these in the console:

Mar 19 00:27:04 freenas smartd[5327]: Device: /dev/ada0, 756 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors
Mar 19 00:27:04 freenas smartd[5327]: Device: /dev/ada0, 1 Offline uncorrectable sectors
Mar 19 00:27:04 freenas smartd[5327]: Device: /dev/ada2, 3 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors

We are about to upgrade to better hardware and more RAM but I'm just wondering what the issue is.

By the way, I think FreeNAS knows I'm seeking help. Right after I made this thread I made another attempt at moving the files I needed to and it worked that time. Geez!

It's simple, your disks are failing (ada0 & ada2) and you're wasting time trying to copy stuff. If you don't have a backup, now would be a good time to make one, otherwise shut it down and wait til you get your new hardware or you're likely to lose your data very soon.

How come sometimes (LESS often than) it does transfer the files and they are fine? There also seemed to be confusion around about what all those pending sectors are. Some people say the drive is failing, others say that is not necessarily the case. I will admit, we do need new hard drives.

Also, if the drives are failing, why is the zpool status healthy? Confusion!
