Please explain it like I'm 5. I really am a noob. In fact, how I've had a system up and running this long is a miracle.

I live in a neighborhood that has power outages probably more often than normal. And each time I bootup after the power comes back on, my system has been assigned a new IP. This is annoying because of Plex, Kodi, Time Machine, and login scripts on several Macs that use an AFP share.

Build - 9.10.4
Supermicro X10SLL-F
i3 - 4170
16gb ECC

Stop using DHCP and assign a static IP to your FreeNAS box and jails.

Fix your IP on your router. I'm lazy, so setup everything with DHCP and use the router as the central point for network management. Let it boot, check what IP got, assign one from the router, reboot, voila.

@m0nkey_ has the right idea. Assign static IP addresses to your server, Plex and Kodi and they won't keep changing every time you power back up. Do some searches in the forum about how to assign static IP's to plugins and jails.

I would also get a UPS for your setup. I have both my router and FreeNAS on UPS.
