Hi all.
I am out of sata ports.
I have setup another pool just for VMs.
It is 2 x 240 GB and a 320Gb 2.5 inch sata drives.
They are not exacly the fastest.
They are in RAIDZ1. FreeNAS did not like me using drives of different sizes but that is what I have.
So it is about 400GB space ofr VMs.
On it are ubuntu linux, a very low spec windows & ubuntu server.
Ubuntu server deos networking related stuff including a lan cache for my steam games. The windows 10 vm updates/downloads them overnight to my games backup on the main pool. It means my games can update fairly fast.
I want to use an old 60GB SSD as a L2 arc for the pool with VMs. Of course that will connect to a sata III port on the motherboard.
The VMs can be rebooted frequently but not the NAS itself.
Also and they are allocated only the memory they need - 3GB for windows 10, 1.5GB for ubuntu server and 2GB for ubuntu linux.
It means I need more sata ports.
There are plenty of cards on ebay but are unsure of compatibility with freeNAS as most do not specify what the chip/model is.
I did find this: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PCI-E-P...ontroller-Card-Adapter-6Gbps-Pro/402295755372
It has the Asmedia 88SE9215 chip apparently.
Is that compatible with FreeNAS?
If so i may get it and use for the slow 2.5 inch drives.
Thanks
