Hi all.
So now am low on sata slots and need more
I was looking at some of these cards for use with freennas.
I understand they will need to be flashed to work well with freenas.

So if I buy one, flash and put into my machine can i:
Attach all drives through it and boot from the any drives attached.
It means all my boot & data drives go through the card and will they be standard bootable drives recognised in the BIOS.

My reasons are straight forward.
Firstly I need more sata ports as needed.
Secondly to easily virtualize freenas.
My hardware supports hardware passthorugh.
I wish to install proxmox passing through the card to a VM, specifically freenas.
Freenas has no harware passthrough options for VMs it seems.

Freenas is great for storage and proxmox is great for virtualization. It seems a good idea to use the appropriate one for the task.

AI also intend to install other VMs also.
Anyone using these cards and booting from attached drives?

Thanks.

If you haven't yet bought anything, buy the HBA cards rather than RAID, but still flash into IT mode.

See the Hardware recommendation guides in the Resources section.
