Don't seem to be able to make VM connect to shares on nas

I have installed Linux in a VM on Freenas 11. After the install I am trying to setup automount nfs shares and cant even get to create a normal share. Trying to get the VM to view the NAS shares and getting an error that says the connection is refuse. Has any one had this issue? I just need to get to the point of being able to see the shares.

Which linux distro? How is the NFS server configured on FreeNAS ( version etc )? What are your FreeNAS share exports (as root cat /etc/exports)? Have you checked/set up the client config in your linux vm for nfs version/id mapping?
