Do you think I need ZIL

I have a very basic understanding of ZIL, and what it does. I do not think my use case requires it but I wanted a second opinion.
My use is SMB/CIFS shares, no NFS with mostly large files (system images). Primarily writing for backups, but also reading as well. There will be some smaller file storage, but performance is not an issue with those.
What do you think?

no, you don't need zil. CIFS is async and will not benefit.

Thanks cyberjock. I actually have your noob guide open in another tab. I read it back in July, but it is just now that I am really getting into things. I got my grubby little paws on a Poweredge 295o with 16GB RAM. Time to get this done!
