GUI based PPTP server.. I've been trying to get it running based on this tutorial but no dice. I just can't figure out the IP addresses and what to do when it's behind a router..

XBMC or Plex Media Server.. either one :P

AFAIK Neither XBMC or Plex Media Server have been ported to FreeBSD, so making a plugin is a non-starter until(and if) that happens. There's plenty of people that would love to see PMS on FreeBSD though, but I'd expect it to be at least a year away from being "usable" once they decide to devote resources to porting it to FreeBSD. One of the developers or admins on the PMS forum had a post a few weeks ago that porting to FreeBSD is far from trivial and not a priority.

TVMOBiLi have released a version of their DLNA server for FreeBSD. This has some advantages over MiniDLNA, such as configuration via a web interface and automatic scanning of the media folders for changes. It can be installed in the plugins jail via a shell script but there is no PBI. The installer can be download from here: <http://www.tvmobili.com/binaries/stable/tvmobili-freebsd-universal.tar.gz>
It would be great if someone was able to convert the script based install into a PBI.

Since the plug-in came to freenas platform is making it more interesting for the possibilities and the increasing ways that you can use the software. I have an idea for a future plug-in.
It’s an HTTP server that every one that has access can browse via the html protocol through his 'ftp' server.

http://www.rejetto.com/hfs/?f=intro

I have the software at my home server for years it works perfectly and it’s very convenient because you can browse it through html.
You don’t need an ftp client or any other preinstalled utility or software.

The installation of plugins needs to be simpler - the permission issue is a pain on occasion the the intricate order of events needs to be made a lot simpler.
You should not have to jexec into jail and manually setup folders and permission - this ought to be made a lot simpler
It ought to be as simple as
1. intall plugin
2. define share
3. point share to plugin (done!)
You could make it even simpler where the plugin installation prompts you to point to existing shares or sets them up during the setup/installation process.

Disk management is confusion at times - Exactly what is the point of being forced to start freenas in a single user mode before being able to run a fsck with an update option.
If this is not allowed then freenas should not allow the -y option when booted in normal mode.

That's my 2c worth on this

It would be nice to have an XDM plugin since it regroups a lot of downloading scripts and it's free software !

I'm surprised at the amount of people that ask for Transmission and OpenVPN. I'm under the impression that those have been included since 8.3 as far as I know. I don't recall ever having to install anything extra to get those two running; just the base install image + plugins image had everything you need. I've been running those on the NAS box for a while now.

I would definitely second the print server and PLEX though. Specifically, a print server that facilitates sending windows drivers automatically when clients connect to it (just like windows servers).

Beginning with 8.1, FreeNAS will support the installation of software packages through the use of a plugin system. These packages will be in the form of PBIs (Push Button Installers) which is the packaging system used by PC-BSD.

There is a PBI forum where you can request the creation of PBIs. If there is an application that you'd like to see available for FreeNAS 8.1, read the README on the PBI Request Forum--it contains instructions for determining if a PBI already exists and, if it does not, how to request that a PBI be created.

Hi!

A spotweb plugin would be handy!
Thanks

Hi,

Both XBMC and Plex Media Server have FreeBSD ports. You can install them by setting your repository to http://pkg.cdn.pcbsd.org/9.1-RELEASE/amd64/All/

Now you can install them by :
pkg install plexmediaserver
pkg install xbmc
