Beginning with 8.1, FreeNAS will support the installation of software packages through the use of a plugin system. These packages will be in the form of PBIs (Push Button Installers) which is the packaging system used by PC-BSD.

There is a PBI forum where you can request the creation of PBIs. If there is an application that you'd like to see available for FreeNAS 8.1, read the README on the PBI Request Forum--it contains instructions for determining if a PBI already exists and, if it does not, how to request that a PBI be created.

RIS for Linux

Change the TFTPD server to HPA-TFTPD so we can utilize RIS for Linux over PXE Remote Windows Installs and Windows PE Boots. I t would be nice to have a RIS for Linux Web Interface. maybe include BINL as well

Bacula
Bacula is a set of Open Source, enterprise ready, computer programs that permit you (or the system administrator) to manage backup, recovery, and verification of computer data across a network of computers of different kinds. Bacula is relatively easy to use and efficient, while offering many advanced storage management features that make it easy to find and recover lost or damaged files. In technical terms, it is an Open Source, enterprise ready, network based backup program.

I know this aint the place to request them, but it might be the place to discuss them.

Taking a look at the available plugins @ pbidir.com , most of these plugins are user apps and not server apps. I think the webserver is planned to be build into the firmware, but the plugin might be even better, allowing the user to upgrade when new versions are available without a new firmware.
But i couldn't find the other 2 important servers besides the web would of course be the SQL server and the email server would be very nice too, then I could finally move my last QNAP over as backup only.

Another bit far out idea would be a modification of the skype plugin that already exists. My NAS is placed in the middle of the apartment and a bluetooth or wireless headset could cover most of it. Having a "server skype" where I can pickup a call with the headset button - besides that function it only needs sound to play a ring when someone calls. It wouldn't need a callout function, though that prolly could be covered via a cgi script.
No idea if I would use it if it existed, but its a kinda funny idea.

hi
is it possible to add support for KVM - Kernel-based Virtual Machine on FreeNAS?

I second this for Bacula, especially the bacula storage daemon (i.e. bacula-sd) which would allow me to have local disks or USB drives attached to the FreeNAS system function as the backing store to be used by bacula clients when backing up. That'd be super sweet!

KVM adds virtualization to the Linux kernel. BHyVe or Xen would roughly be the FreeBSD equivalent.

1. iperf has been available since 8.0.1 RC1 (http://blog.freenas.org/2011/09/freenas-801-rc1-released.html).

2. LCD Smartie is a Windows application. It appears that the source code has not been released.

3. A PBI is available for ClamAV, meaning that it will be easy to plug-in once 8.1 is released.

4. A port request has been made for AjaXplorer: http://forums.pcbsd.org/showthread.php?t=15275

5. A PBI is available for transmission, meaning that it will be easy to plug-in once 8.1 is released.

6. DC++ is a Windows app that is supposed to work under Wine. Since a PBI is available for Wine, it will be easy to plug-in once 8.1 is released.

7. xdove is dovecot + xmail. A PBI request has been made for dovecot (http://forums.pcbsd.org/showthread.php?p=89875) and a port request for xmail (http://forums.pcbsd.org/showthread.php?p=89876).

FlexGet?

Seems the functionality of this program would be great to have to automating downloads. A nice GUI interface would be great.
