Hello everybody!
I'm having a problem with my FreeNAS server (specifications below) and need some help. Most of the time everything seems OK and no alerts are shown, but when the disks are heavily used, only one of the 6 HDs (ada1) is going UNAVAIL and the volume enters DEGRADED state. Here goes the alert message, "dmesg", "zpool status" and "smarttcl -a" output:

First problem: this drive only has seen one test in its life and it was almost 1000 hours ago. You should look at how your SMART are configured because there's something wrong somewhere.

Second problem: this drive reports a lot (like "I never seen that many before") of UDMA ECC errors which are usually because of a bad contact (try to reseat both end of the SATA cable), a bad SATA cable (try another cable), bad power (bad contact, bad PSU, ...) or a bad drive. Given the drive is one of the famous ST1000DM003 it's maybe the drive (even if usually it's the less likely option) but try to change the SATA cable first.

Third problem: the ST1000DM003 drives are very very unreliable, and I'm not saying that because I'm a WD fanboy or whatever (actually I've both brands in my NAS) it's just a bad model with a near to 100 % failure rate.

(ada1:ahcich1:0:0:0): Periph destroyed
This is a sure sign of either loss of power to the drive, or an unresponsive (failing) drive. Might be as simple as a bad SATA power cable.

You might be thinking of the 3TB model (ST3000DM001).

Ah, got the 1 and the 3 reversed, my bad. And I've a cold, not that good for neurons I guess...
