Dell c2100 & 85M9R crossflash

I finally was able to purchase a new HBA for my c2100, the dell 85M9R "mezzanine". I realize I have to cross flash it and want to be sure I get good instructions on how to do so.

Is that applicable?

I'm not near the server at the moment, but I am assuming that I will need new/different cables. Can anyone tell me which cables I need?

It's quite possible that the cards have special firmware to authenticate themselves with the system BIOS. Crossflashing may not be possible at all. In that case, your best bet is to find a card whose firmware tracks the LSI releases and uses either the SAS2308 or SAS3008 chips. You can then use the mrsas driver to get direct attach functionality even in hardware RAID mode.
