I must be going mad. Last week I went to the Supermicro website and looked at the cpu support list for this board and now, I cannot find it. So I called them and they said they ONLY Pentium G series cpu that passed is the G3450. This cannot be. I have a G3240 sitting in my cart. I was going to purchase but I thought I would just double-check and see the cpu support doc...

And, is it possible to flash the BIOS without the cpu installed? Assuming it doesn't work with the old BIOS.

EDIT: I am surprised this board is recommended and among the most popular here. I am seeing nothing but problems with CPU support. After reading other threads it seems you cannot update the bios via USB stick unless the cpu works. So if I get a board with the old BIOS I will need to pay $30 to Supermicro.

It seems the only safe play is to go with the G3220 cpu since that has been confirmed to work out of the box on any BIOS version.

v2.0 bios supports Haswell Refresh and v3.0 supports broadwell. I don't think many are being offered with v1.0, but they still exist in the retail channel.

but if you do get an old BIOS, and an unsupported cpu, apparently you cannot update without a functioning cpu. You would need to send it in to SM to reflash it. Or pay the $ to flash it via IPTI or whatever. Which is malarkey IMO. The fact that they don't have a tested cpu spec sheet available on there site is further malarkey. For such a reputable name in the server world, I am pretty unimpressed.

I didn't realize all the posts (on this site and external) of people claiming their cpus didn't work with this board. How can they not have a tested cpu spec sheet?!? I'm baffled.

Most of the incompatible CPU's are those before they updated their bios. Another method is to find another cheap intel cpu that does work, and then you can reflash the bios from there. I think Supermicro could use better support as it does work with all Core i3, Pentium, Celeron and Xeon E3 which all support unbuffered ECC ram.
