Hello, I have been using Truenas Core on two machines for about 4 years. Now I am attempting to move one of them from Truenas Core to Scale (after recently updating its hardware) and am running into a problem where the installer does not see the boot ssd.
I recently moved my install (sata ssd crucial mx500) and pools (4 sata seagate ironwolf nas) from a supermicro 5028d-tn4t to a new build (specs below). Truenas core runs fine, and I have been able to reinstall it and reload my config as well without trouble. If I let the web ui update to scale bluefin, it does not complain, but when it tries to boot, it complains that it cannot find the boot-pool. Attempting to load it with zpool does not work as it doesn't even know about the disk, and lsblk shows only the usb install drive. I believe this means that it is able to start the boot off the ssd, but the linux install itself is unable to see the disk. If I attempt to install fresh from a usb stick, it complains that there are no disks to select to install to.
I'm aware that a lot of these kinds of issues with linux are due to raid controllers, but I am using the sata ports directly on the motherboard and have tried as many combinations as I have found the time for switching between UEFI and legacy, ACHI, etc. I expect there is some combination that will work, but it is a slow process and with just guesswork, it's quite frustrating.
I tried using AMD's linux raid walkthrough for bios settings (not installing the drivers), doing what it specifies and also separately switching it so instead of raid on, I turn it off (I don't need the mb raid, obviously). https://drivers.amd.com/relnotes/am...ide_for_ubuntu_operating_system-rev_0_5_1.pdf
One confusing/frustrating thing about the bios settings is that there appear to be multiple overlapping settings in
I have also been in contact with ASRock's tech support, but that has not been helpful, despite the motherboard listing various types of linux as supported OS.
OS installs that work:
Truenas CORE
Windows 10
OS installs that fail to see the disk:
Truenas Scale
Ubuntu server
Linux mint
Hardware specs:
Below is what I see when I boot the installer usb, and the result of lsblk when using the installer's shell. The warnings during init I don't believe are relevant since I saw the same thing installing it on a separate test computer and it then installed fine.
Here is the error I get when I use the upgrade from core to scale - which happens after the machine reboots, I didn't see any kind of warning or error during the quick install start (a minute or so, including download).
If there is additional info I can gather to improve the help, please let me know.
Thank you.
